June 20 - September 7, 2009
There can be no doubt of the overwhelming importance of memory in our individual lives. We spend much of our waking lives remembering. Our ability to perform the simplest tasks relies on remembering what to do and how to do it. Our very sense of who we are rests largely in remembering where we've been, whom we've known, what we've done, and how we've felt. Memory, a major new exhibition at Lakeview Museum of Arts and Sciences, opens to the public June 20, 2009.
Illinois Folk Art Gallery
One of the greatest strengths of Lakeview Museum's collection is its midwestern folk art collection. This collection comprises more than 600 works of art spanning three centuries of Midwestern creative expression.
Planetarium Shows
Illinois River Decoy Gallery
The Decoy Gallery features permanent exhibits of decoys by Illinois' most famous carvers - Charles Perdew, Robert Elliston, G. Bert Graves, Charles Walker and Charles Schoenheider, Sr. In addition, a small changing exhibit area features decoys from the museum's permanent collection and those generously lent from private collections.
Discovery Center
The Discovery Center is an area for children of all ages to enjoy hands-on art & science exhibits. The area features more than 30 different displays to challenge and delight the mind, including the mineral house, the cloud ring, the duck-in kaleidoscope, shadow walls, the ever-popular pin wall, and much more.
