Saturdays

Primary Cartooning

Saturdays, September 18 - November 6

Jim Matarelli: Museum Instructor, MFA, BFA

POW! WHAM! BOOM! Students will learn to draw SpongeBob, Rugrats & friends, Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny and other well-known classic characters, Charlie Brown, Snoopy & friends, Garfield and others. This is a one hour blockbuster, fun class for the very young student who will be encouraged to do their very best to build self-esteem. No prior experience is necessary.

Primary Drawing

Saturdays, September 18 - November 6

Jim Matatelli: Museum Instructor, MFA, BFA

A fun class for budding young artists who are encouraged to do their very best to build self-esteem. Emphasis will be on realistically drawing subjects of interest to the students and the students expressing themselves creatively. Airplanes, animals, architecture, birds, cars, dinosaurs, portraits, interiors and still life are a few of the subject possibilities. No prior experience necessary.

Drawing I & II

Saturdays, September 18 - November 6

Similar to Primary Drawing but designed for this age group. Realistic drawing, creative expression, concepts, observation and techniques are emphasized. All skill levels welcomed with no prior experience necessary.

Children's Ceramics

Saturdays, September 18 - November 6

Claire LaRose: MFA/Ceramics

Have you ever wanted an excuse to play in the mud? Here's your chance! During eight sessions we'll explore the artistic medium of clay through pinching, coiling, slab building and even throwing. Sculptural to functional, we'll work on creating a new work of art each week. All skill levels are welcome.

Paint Like the Masters

Learn to paint like the masters. From VanGogh to Matisse, Katie will teach you the styles and techniques needed to create your own paintings. Each week will feature a new artist! How does an artist decide what to paint? Katie will show you. A great after school activity!

Country Landscapes

Tuesdays, September 21 - November 9

Linda Coulter: Museum Teacher

Students learn how to paint landscapes from their own photos, starting with grisaille then color glazing to create a full color art work. They can choose whatever size canvas they want and paint as many landscapes as they desire during this time.

Jeffery Goard: Bishop Hill Potter

Learn the skills needed to create functional pottery. Under the direction of Jeffery you will learn use of the potter's wheel and hand building techniques. Projects will be glazed and fired. Class is limited to 8. Daytime studio hours available.

Beginning Drawing

Each class will be tailored to the drawing abilities of the class. Can't draw a straight line? If this is your fear, join us and you will learn how to really see the subjects, plan a composition, and learn techniques. We will practice really seeing what you are looking at, and experience different drawing media. You will gain confidence in your ability. Bring sketchbook, pencils, charcoal! All experience levels.
