Discovery Center
The Discovery Center, adjacent to the exhibition galleries, is one of the most popular areas of the Museum. Its hands-on methodology explores both the sciences and the arts through the use of demonstration units and computers. With a $1.3 million grant from the State Board of Education, Lakeview and four other science centers in Illinois developed the Illinois Wild Weather program. This program includes permanent exhibits in our Discovery Center and a number of traveling exhibits to educate students about our awesome atmosphere.
Lakeview Museum's Discovery Center is an area for children of all ages to enjoy hands-on art & science exhibits. The area features more than 30 different displays to challenge and delight the mind, including the mineral house, the cloud ring, the duck-in kaleidoscope, shadow walls, the ever-popular pin wall, and much more. The Discovery Center has two presentation rooms used for group tour and weekend presentations on weather and the physics of light and color. These rooms also have exhibits for use by individual visitors during regular gallery hours.
